Why Need A Mentor

BY Admin · January 24 2019 ·

Every Successful person in the world whether they’re an entrepreneur, an athlete or a musician all had great mentors who helped them unlock their potential.

I owe my success to my Mother and Father as they have been my all-time Mentor and Coach right from my early days until now. My journey of mentoring had been instilled right from childhood where my Mother would let me know how I need to help others with the information I already possessed. There are many instances where she had given me tasks to help others who needed the skill that I possessed. Although there was no plan of making me a Mentor or a Coach but a general aspect of Life to give back what you have was something I learned early on.

And with my parent’s blessings I took up the role of what I am most passionate about i.e. Mentoring /Coaching.

Mentoring accelerates your journey fourfold than your own trials, as Mentors know the roadblocks to your GOAL.

My Mentorship involves understanding each Mentees personality, background and assist them to set their short-term goal in steps to reach the highest Goal they wish to achieve.

One on one interaction is essential to understand the weakness and strength of each Mentee. No two Mentees journey is the same, hence careful consideration is taken not to replicate each other’s goal just for the sake of achieving Higher Goal.

Every Mentee is unique with their own traits and skills to sharpen.

Mentoring is often misunderstood as Counselling or supervision. Mentor builds your thought process , problem solving skill , encourage to confront an issue ,try a new approach or take the next step.

Mentor understands your potential and unlocks it. As a Mentor I have already learnt from my experienced officials (my Mentor). I remember how important mentors were to me, and now I enjoy watching younger professionals develop skills.

Some of the benefits a coach or mentor can provide you are: they challenge you, they listen well, they can guide you to where you want to go, have the experience required to help you, provide feedback which is constructive and make themselves available to you when you need them the most.

At the same time, mentoring is a mutual endeavour, and as a mentee, you have assets to bring to the partnership. First of all, you bring a different and new viewpoint. You may be more familiar with recent research or perspectives, and help a mentor stay current.

Mutual confidentiality and trust are critical components of the mentoring relationship.

There is no set time limit for a mentoring relationship. Some may be just a few months; others may go on for years. What generally happens is that, at some point, both the mentor and the mentee recognize that the goals of the mentoring process have changed or have been achieved. Perhaps you have accomplished your stated goals or reached a specific career milestone. If so, this should be reviewed and celebrated. In the best possible outcome, the mentoring relationship eventually transitions into a peer relationship. The relationship continues, but it gets restructured and updated, and it becomes one of professional collegiality.
